Explicit teaching support and carefully constructed practice for reading, spelling and writing for Stage 6

Little Learners Love Literacy® is an explicit and sequential literacy program that teaches ALL children to read, write and spell with confidence. Created from evidence-based research, this new edition Teacher Activity Resource book will ensure teaching of reading, spelling and handwriting is effective, targeted and explicit.

How Do I Use It?

The Teacher Activity Resource books provide simple lesson plans and activities for each week. Each lesson is designed around the LLLL explicit teaching model:

Use the TAR alongside the Little Learners Love Literacy® decodable books and practise games such as Sound Swap, Tim’s Quiz and Read, write and draw.

Scope and Sequence

Stage 6: sh, ch, tch, th, ng, wh & ph

In Stage 6, children continue to learn consonant digraphs (2 letters, 1 sound) and their first consonant trigraph (3 letters, 1 sound). Unlike Stages Plus 4-5, each digraph in Stage 6 represents a brand new phoneme. Students learn when to use alternative spellings. The focus continues to be on reading and spelling – reversible skills which need to be linked for the most effective teaching.

Key features:

  • Weekly plans
  • Day-by-day explicit teaching notes including scripts, resource lists, wordlists, sentences and passages.
  • Purposeful activity sheets provide opportunities for children to practise and apply knowledge with activities for independent reading and writing.
  • Daily review notes and end of week review sheets support formative assessment
  • LLLL Playbook provides scripts for each instructional routine to support consistency across classrooms.

We're dedicated to bridging the gap between evidence-based research and the teaching of reading, spelling and writing.

With training that aligns with the science of reading, teachers can understand and teach the English spelling system for both reading and writing with confidence and success.
