Anne Humphrey is a highly experienced literacy educator with a deep commitment to structured, evidence-based practice.

Her journey into the Science of Reading began while teaching a Year 2 class, when working alongside Liz Kane to support a dyslexic learner transformed her understanding of how reading develops—and how it should be taught. "Each insight she shared sparked  my curiosity and motivated me to learn more about teaching reading more  effectively for all of my students."

Anne has taught across Years 0–8 in New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and in specialist roles, including Resource Teacher of Literacy. She is a trained Orton Gillingham practitioner, a practicing MSL Educational Specialist (IMSLE, Aus), and an accredited member of the Australian Dyslexia Association. Her qualifications include a Postgraduate Degree in Education with a Literacy Endorsement, alongside postgraduate study in Mathematics Education.

Anne is particularly passionate about using evidence to guide decision-making in schools. She believes learning is not a spectator sport—effective literacy instruction requires carefully designed lessons that secure attention, build engagement, and provide the scaffolds necessary for all learners to succeed.

By blending the Science of Reading, Science of Learning, and Cognitive Load Theory with explicit instruction and predictable routines, Anne supports teachers to implement sustainable classroom practice.

Through coaching, professional learning, and presentations with Liz Kane Literacy, Anne works to ensure that now we know better, we do better—for every learner.

"Learning is not a spectator sport. When we design lessons with clarity, evidence, and purpose, every learner can succeed."
